We’ve all heard this common dilemma: someone with an Android device is in a group chat with three friends, all with iPhones. One of the friends sends a cute dog picture to the group, and the friend with the Android device receives two text messages that read: “Liked an image.”
The incompatibly between iMessage and Rich Communication Services (RCS) has made some Android users feel shunned from everyday engagement with their iPhone totting friends.
Google SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer has tried to convince Apple to add RCS messaging support to iMessage. Along with those efforts, Android’s default SMS, MMS and RCS app is adding translation capabilities for iMessage Tapbacks.
Some Android users will start seeing iMessage emoji reactions on text messages, 9to5Google reports. 9to5Google noticed the feature in the newest beta update to Google Messages version 10.7 and has been shipped to some users.
