Pizza Hut. For me, it’s synonymous with primary school birthday parties, post-cinema trip dinners and of course, throwing my arms up into the shape of a triangle at a 00s discos.
An institution in its own right, you can walk into any Pizza Hut around the country and know exactly what to expect. However, one branch in the capital has some pretty shocking reviews.

Rated just two stars on Tripadvisor, reviews say the Surrey Quays spot has ‘rude staff’. Despite 3.5 stars Google, diners are just as disappointed, with one saying the food ‘tastes like it’s been in the freezer for 2 years and cooked at least 3 times’.
Reading these endless comments about the staff and ‘disgusting’ food, I wondered just how bad a Pizza Hut could really be. Surely they’re all the same?

Having not been to a branch in many, many years, I decided to head east and see if the restaurant really deserved to have this online reputation.
Looking back on that tube journey now, I’m convinced I somehow fell back in time. I felt like I was in 2009 heading to my local restaurant for a pizza buffet treat on a Saturday, rather than being a 23-year-old journalist heading into the Surrey Quays branch to test out some bad reviews.
