KOCHI: Compared to the pre-COVID days, the crowd movement at the supermarkets and pharmacies in Kerala has gone up by 60%, shown in the Community Mobility Report from Google. The mobility trends for ‘supermarkets and pharmacies’ include places such as supermarkets, food warehouses, farmers markets, speciality food shops and pharmacies.
The database of Google’s Community Mobility Report gives the latest data as of November 7, 2021 and it shows that mobility trends in retail and recreation spots (restaurants, cafés, shopping centres, theme parks, museums, libraries and cinemas), had been up by 1% compared to the baseline day during normal times. The baseline day is the median value from the 5‑week period Jan 3 – Feb 6, 2020, as per Google.
Mobility trends for places like national parks, public beaches, marinas, dog parks, plazas and public gardens grew by 41% in Kerala as per the latest data. The mobility trends for places that are public transport hubs, bus and train stations stayed the same. Mobility trends for places of work grew by 19% and that of places of residence grew by 10 per cent.
In Ernakulam district, the growth of crowd in supermarkets and pharmacy is 54% but the crowd in retail and recreation spots declined by 4% compared to the pre-Covid days and public transport declined by 2 per cent. At parks in Ernakulam, the crowd grew by 32 per cent. The crowd at residential areas and workplaces grew by 11% each.
