Google’s newest addition to its Pixel line features a 6.4” AMOLED display that refreshes at 90Hz. At a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, the Gorilla Glass panel has a pixel density of 411 pixels per inch (PPI).
The handset has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, which means it will withstand being submerged in up to 1.5m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.
Both the 128GB and 256GB models come with 8GB of RAM and run on Google’s first proprietary chipset called Tensor. In an Apple-esque move, the search giant has stopped using off-the-shelf chips from Qualcomm and instead developed its own.
It means the ability to optimise its phones’ hardware using a chip designed specifically for it. In practice this means that while some specs don’t look the biggest or best on paper, Google is able to get more out of the hardware through optimisation, including sharper photography, advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and more efficient power usage.
