Forge is a platform of web service APIs that allow you to integrate Autodesk SaaS products (such as Fusion Team, BIM 360 Docs, etc.) into your workflows and/or to embed some of the components used in those Autodesk products into your own web or mobile applications. In this presentation I will explain in more detail what Forge is (and what it isn’t) - and show you examples of how to use Forge to enhance your on workflows and applications. This class will introduce the Forge platform from the perspective of an early adopter – starting with business aspects, paradigm shift, cloud concepts, and the future of Autodesk cloud platform strategy. We will cover some of the technical challenges with web programming from the perspective of someone migrating from a desktop programming environment to the cloud, and discuss how to overcome them. We will then walk through some simple yet representative code samples helping you to get started with the Forge platform through the Viewer, Model Derivative API and Design Automation APIs. This class will provide an introduction to building integrations with the Forge platform using standard integration patterns in Mulesoft. Mulesoft is a lightweight event-driven Enterprise Service Bus that provides a robust encapsulation of the core integration patterns as described in the popular book Enterprise Integration Patterns by Hohpe and Woolf. We will demonstrate a custom Forge Anypoint connector built on the Mulesoft integration platform that allows for easy access to the capabilities provided by the Forge platform. Using this connector, Forge functions can be accessed directly from the business process flow editor in Mulesoft. We will go over how businesses can leverage this connector to build repeatable integration solutions using Forge and other enterprise applications. The class will provide a technical demo of a business process orchestration connecting a Force.com application and Netsuite with Forge. By using the Mule ESB for Forge integrations, enterprises can benefit by using standard canonical models to interface with multiple systems as well as leverage common enterprise services for monitoring and security. The design and engineering world is about to go through a major disruption from single user focused, file based "monolithic", hard to learn, desktop CAD to deeply collaborative, highly tailored, and simple to use "database on the cloud" CAD experiences.These workflows will be enabled by the Forge High Frequency Data Management (HFDM) SDK and Forge IDX - the tools Autodesk is using to build next generation products such as Quantum and Fusion Web.

HFDM puts data at the center of Forge application development, enabling developers to build rich and collaborative, data-centric applications and reactive systems at scale. The Forge HFDM data service is a central hub that stores and communicates rapidly changing data between different clients, apps, and connected services while keeping all users in sync. We will show examples of what you can build with HFDM and discuss core architectural concepts and practices, highlighting customer value and benefits.

Forge IDX is a next generation cloud application leveraging HFDM, that lets you easily build rich, collaborative, and smart applications and services using the latest Autodesk technologies. IDX integrates environments for design, development, and publishing, while making it easy for multidisciplinary teams to work together.

This class will provide a walkthrough of application development using the Autodesk Forge and Amazon Web Services. We will discuss developer tools and the steps required to go from the inception of an idea to an application running in production. We will discuss scaling, DevOps, security, and user management. Applications built on Forge software can allow for greater levels of visibility and transparency around sustainability measures by integrating sustainability parameters—such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, and so on—into the design-and-make process through a common data environment with 3D models. This class will introduce Forge application developers and customers to the opportunity of developing Forge applications that capitalize on the data of BIM (Building Information Modeling) or engineering models to improve outcomes along these sustainability parameters, or to make sophisticated design choices for better buildings or products with less negative environmental impact.
