Did you know you can get your keynote data from a database or your company wiki, or that you can share links across multiple users without complicated setups with mapped network drives? This class will teach Revit API users how to use the external resource service to manage linked models and other external data. You will learn how to easily create references to Revit software, DWG™ software, or Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) models that are provided by a Revit plug-in. This can give you more control over how to manage and control access to links. For example, in a work-shared environment, users with different machine setups can still access the same linked data. (Or not access it!) You will also learn how to customize your keynote data and avoid using a keynote file entirely if you wish. We'll also go over some tips and tricks for using links, including some enhancements made in Revit 2018 software.

These shop drawings will have all of the information vital for production, including piece weights, lengths, volumes, and counts, as well as the necessary reinforcement and embedded elements within each element. This class will walk you through the unique process of utilizing assemblies and schedules within Revit software to achieve a desirable shop ticket that any precast manufacturer can use. We all hear it... Revit doesn't do beautiful drawings. We hear it enough to sometimes believe it but we know the reality. With a little extra care and some playful control of tools such as Filters and Depth Cueing, we can make a tired flat 2D drawing spring off the page. designtech and BPTW Partnership have worked closely on these workflows, tested over the past year on delivered projects. Together we will show attendees how to use every available tool for 2D graphic representation within Revit. At no point will we take information away from Revit, enabling the BIM process to remain robust while giving designers the ability to turn complex data into beautiful drawings.

The ability to use the Revit API to modify visual appearances of materials was among the top customer requests for years. This new API has been finally implemented. This class will present the new Materials API, coding workflows, and usage of multiple schemas for the visualization properties of materials in Revit software.

Autodesk brings into play a new automated workflow for precast elements, turning slabs and walls into assemblies via automatic segmentation. Automatic reinforcement, shop drawings, and CAM files then step in to complete the design process. Respecting designers' and fabricators' perspectives and switching between different levels of development are some more key benefits of embracing a Revit-software-based workflow. But no model is truly complete until multidisciplinary coordination between structure, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), and architecture is achieved, which is greatly enabled in this all-Revit-software-based solution. The purpose of this class is to demonstrate a Building Information Modeling (BIM)-connected design-to-fabrication workflow from Revit for a precast model, and we'll also explore some other great productivity and modeling tools dedicated to precast that are delivered by Autodesk partners.

Have you ever built a family in Revit software and needed to create rotation and dimensional parameters because there were multiple moving parts? This class will show you how to create parameters within the Revit software massing, adaptive component, and traditional Family Editors so your families can move. Forget what you've learned about how to apply rotation and dimensional parameters to Revit software families. This lecture will show new and exciting methods that could be applied to most Revit software families and is intended to be Part 2 to the class titled "Families in Motion" in previous years at Autodesk University. If you can model it, you can schedule it. Using schedules in Revit software is a powerful way of viewing the information in your Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects. Schedules in Revit software have improved over the past couple of releases. In this session we’ll explore the new features in schedules, as well as discuss some of the lesser-known parts of creating schedules, like creating embedded schedules, using conditional formatting in schedules, or understanding key schedules. We will also dive into shared, project, and global parameters, and how to use them in calculated formulas. This session features Revit.

The DirectContext3D API exposes an interface to Revit plug-ins that lets graphics supplied by the external applications coexist with standard content in Revit software. Because external graphics can have diverse uses, external applications that utilize DirectContext3D can have a redefining effect on typical workflows in Revit. For example, a display of external content can be viewed as an alternative to linking or importing. In Revit 2018, this API capability enables the direct display of Navisworks content in Revit as a part of the Coordination Model feature. This class will provide the necessary foundation for Revit API developers to begin using DirectContext3D to display external graphical objects directly in Revit views. We will provide several examples, including Coordination Model.

This class will provide an introduction to building Revit plug-ins using C# programming language. We will start by using Microsoft Visual Studio to create and deploy a Revit plug-in using C#. Once we understand how to build and use Revit plug-ins, we will delve deeper into the C# programming language, using it to tap into the Revit API to extend the functionality of Revit software. We will focus on 3 different exercises that utilize different areas of the Revit API, touching on useful C# techniques as we do.

This session will cover a case study on how the move to Revit software helps you win more business. During this presentation, we'll look at how Scott Hughes Design in the United Kingdom implemented Revit for structural detailing. A key driver in the successful implementation was the switch from 2D reinforcement detailing to supplying a fully compliant Building Information Modeling (BIM) model as part of client deliverables. With an overview of successful key milestones and strategies utilized, we'll identity the key workflows adopted that helped Scott Hughes retain and win business again and again.

Revit software is highly tuned for architects and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) and structural engineers, but "out of the box" it doesn't quite meet all of the needs and unique workflow requirements of some other disciplines, such as interior design. This class will explore some of the ways that interior designers can successfully incorporate Revit into their workflows, understanding when it is important to model and when it is better not to model. We'll also document materials and finishes, including using Area plans and Key Schedules, note blocks and note tags, and techniques for quickly and easily generating graphics for presentations.

If you're new to programming, you likely won't know what all of these mean.

However, if you want to take your Revit addin to the next level, and write a maintainable, testable application, you will need to know all of these and more.

This class will teach you the fundamentals of how to separate your application into multiple layers, how to unit test your applications and explain why this is a good idea (Hint: your application will end up larger than you've planned).

Integrating all of this into a Revit addin presents its own particular challenges, and these will be addressed in this class.

There will also be a sample application provided that you can use as the basis for your own applications.

Revit cloud is quickly picking up speed in many offices, but the small ins and outs can hold back even the strongest Revit users from running a cloud project. From firsthand experience, this class will go over what you need to know and to expect when making the transition from server to cloud. We'll go over troubleshooting, best practices, order of operations for implementation, and what would be considered optimal project types for Collaboration for Revit.
